Like
most of you reading this, we wouldn’t even know the name Karrueche Tran
if it wasn’t for Chris Brown. Their relationship is the primary reason
she has a career in front of the camera, and now in a new interview, she
claims their toxic union has prevented her from excelling in Hollywood.
Madame
Noire reports that the 27-year-old “actress” says that her decision to
go back to Brown after he betrayed and publicly embarrassed her has made
many industry folks reluctant to work with her.
“A
lot of people think I am a weak individual because of past situations,
and when it comes to business sometimes people don’t want to be involved
with somebody like that,” Tran explained to BBC Newsbeat. “Which is
understandable, but it sucks, because I’m not a weak person.”
Tran
called it quits with Brown earlier this year after reading on TMZ that
he fathered a child with another woman, and now she’s trying to create a
name for herself in the industry without being associated to Brown’s.
“I
used to date him, and now as I am growing into myself and maturing and
getting my career together, I am starting to have my own name without
having to be associated,” she said.
Chris
has made a few attempts to rekindle the romance with his ex, even going
so far as stalking her outside a night club and obsessing over her
social media profile, which has resulted in endless brash comments from
Team Breezy fans.
Karrueche describes how she has had to learn to “block out” negative comments on social media.
“I
feel like I shouldn’t have to explain myself to anybody because this is
my life and I can do whatever I want. But in the same breath, it’s
like, now that I am trying to focus on my career and get my stuff
together, I have to clear up certain things.
“Negative stuff was being said and being brought up. A lot of people were like ‘she’s only famous because of Chris Brown.'”
Karrueche says she’s no longer in contact with Chris, and adds “we’re not friends or anything like that at this point”.
