#SPORTS:Pearson remains in charge as confusion surrounds Leicester

The struggling Foxes have issued a statement clarifying the current situation of the 51-year-old, amid puzzlement around his position at the King Power Stadium

Leicester City have issued a statement clarifying the current position of manager

Nigel Pearson, amid confusion surrounding his job security.

The Foxes currently lie bottom of the Premier League table and were beaten 1-0 by Crystal Palace on Saturday, leaving them four points adrift of safety, and it was understood on Sunday that Pearson had been sacked.

Indeed, many members of the Leicester playing staff believed their manager had gone but the Foxes have now moved to clarify the situation.

"Contrary to media speculation on Sunday evening, Nigel remains the club's first-team manager," read a statement on Leicester's website.

Pearson, who was appointed for a second spell at the club in 2011, has overseen just four wins in the Premier League this season.

Pearson won the LMA Championship Manager of the Year award last season, with Leicester having won the division with a staggering 102 points.

The ex-Hull manager's spell at the King Power Stadium has been plagued by controversies, however, as he reportedly exchanged abuse with a fan earlier this season, before appearing to grab Palace's James McArthur by the throat during the defeat to Palace
