Van Ginkel rejected Ajax move - De Boer

The 22-year-old has spent the majority of the season at AC Milan but the Dutch side attempted to lure the midfielder to the Netherlands during last month's transfer window

Frank de Boer has revealed that

Chelsea midfielder

Marco Van Ginkel turned down a move to

Ajax in January.

The 22-year-old, who joined the Blues from Vitesse in 2013, has spent 2014-15 on loan at AC Milan but has played just five games for the Serie A side.

De Boer says the club made an approach to sign Van Ginkel in the mid-season transfer window, only to see the Dutchman reject the move, and they ultimately decided to splash €6 million on bringing Daley Sinkgraven from Heerenveen instead.

"We asked Van Ginkel if he wanted to move, because Davy Klaassen and Thulani Serero were not fit," the Ajax boss told reporters.

"At first we were looking at him and after that we focussed on Sinkgraven for the future. Due to injuries we needed Sinkgraven right away. And besides that, Van Ginkel didn't want to come."

Van Ginkel has made just four appearances for Chelsea and is yet to complete 90 minutes for the senior side.
