The nine-year-old daughter of Indian IT worker Prabha Kumar, who was brutally slain in a Sydney park on Saturday night, still doesn’t know her mother is dead.
Family members have been sheltering Meghana Kumar from the constant flood of news about her mother’s grisly death.
Meghana remained in India as her father Arun, who was on the phone to his wife when she was attacked, made the harrowing trip to Australia.

Mrs Kumar’s nephew, Thrijesh Jayachandra, told the Times of India that they haven’t been able to bring themselves to break the news to the young girl.
“The only reason why my aunt wanted to come back from Sydney was to spend time with her daughter,” Mr Jayachandra said.
“She had missed seeing her grow up for three years and she was very pained by that. Meghana keeps inquiring about her father and why there is no call from her mother in the past few days.”
Those looking after Meghana while her father is in Australia have kept her home from school and away from the media which is full of news about the murder.

Another family member said they were waiting for Mr Kumar to return and tell his daughter himself.
“We want her father to come back and tell the truth. The news is all over television channels and other media. It has become tough for us to keep her away from all this,” they told The Times of India.
Mrs Kumar had been in Australia since 2012 after coming to the country for an initial 12 month project as an IT consultant.
One year turned into two and then three, but Mrs Kumar was finally preparing to return to India at the beginning of April.
The 41-year-old would ring home almost daily and the lack of a call since Saturday hasn’t been lost on Meghana, who is asking family members why her mother hasn’t called.
