Former Barça and Holland player Edgar Davids believes that football’s star performers will have to wait until Leo Messi’s career starts to decline before they have a realistic chance of winning the Ballon d’Or, although the player did underline Cristiano Ronaldo’s outstanding qualities.
“It’s incredible what [he and Messi] have accomplished until now and what they continue to achieve. I love Ronaldo because he is such an amazing player; he works very hard. If Messi lacks sharpness, he’s always there, ready”, Davids told fifa.com.
Yet the 42-year-old is in no doubts about who he feels should win the 2015 award next month in Zurich: “If he’s fit, most of the time it’s Messi. But he is an anomaly. The rest will have to wait until he falls off a little bit”, he said.
