Nigerian authorities have arrested a man after he allegedly slipped his pregnant girlfriend a homemade abortion concoction that killed her and their unborn child.
The unnamed man and his 20-year-old girlfriend, Wunmi Agbeluyi, allegedly discussed having an abortion after Wunmi discovered she was pregnant, according to Umu Afrika. The young woman was an undergraduate student at the National Diploma Science Laboratory Technology, the report states.
The boyfriend, described as an herbalist, allegedly made a homemade abortion drug for Wunmi to drink, the report states. A few days after taking it, the young woman developed severe stomach pains and was taken to the hospital where a doctor attempted to “flush out” her unborn child, according to the report. She later was moved to another hospital where she died, the report states.
Wunmi’s sister Funke said the young woman was not aware that the homemade drug that her boyfriend gave her was intended to kill their unborn child.
The boyfriend and the doctor that helped to flush out her unborn child both were arrested and are being questioned by the Nigerian Special Investigative Bureau, according to the report.
