Kylie Jenner’s latest photo shoot posing in a wheel chair has angered disability advocates.
To add the the drama, World Disability Day is on 3 December.
The youngest Kardashian sister was the latest star to grace the pages of Interview Magazine, but what sparked outrage was the gold wheel chair the Kardashian was using as a prop. This sparked outrage among advocates and people who are actually disabled.

Ian Ruder, senior editor of New Mobility, the member publication of United Spinal Association told People magazine: “It’s disappointing to see people fall back on the tired and totally untrue idea that being in a wheelchair is limiting. I think most wheelchair users, myself included, would tell you that our wheelchairs are empowering and enable us to fully live our lives.”
An organisation calling for more diversity in the modelling industry, Disability for Models of Diversity, found the images very offensive. The director, Chelsey Jay, talking to Fox News, said her organisation is “completely against the images of an able Kylie Jenner using a wheelchair.”
“It’s very bad taste that it’s deemed ‘artistic’ to place a celebrity figure in the position of a disabled person in an editorial sense,” she added.
“However in reality, the fashion industry shuns actual models who in real life, depend on these mobility aids, yet are excluded for this exact reason.”
Interview defended the photo shoot, they released a statement, saying : “Throughout the Art Issue, we celebrate a variety of women who are both the creators and subjects of their artistic work, and the Kylie feature aims to unpack Kylie’s status as both engineer of her image and object of attention.”
“Our intention was to create a powerful set of pictures that get people thinking about image and creative expression, including the set with the wheelchair, but our intention was certainly not to offend anyone.”

But twitter users did not agree, girls in wheelchairs posted their distaste for the pictures and added some of their own, showing how ‘glamorous’ being in a wheelchair really is.

wheelchairs are really useful most specifically to those that are handicapped and also physically disabled since it helps them do the things that they want and also makes their lives much easier and bearable. Thanks for sharing. Wheelchair Online
