Bob Marley once said, "Don't worry, be happy," but that is far from what Snapchat users are doing.
Snapchat is under fire for releasing a Bob Marley selfie filter that masks users with dreadlocks and a "digital" black face. The filter was released by the company as a way to celebrate April 20, aka 420, a day honored by weed smokers everywhere.
However, users found the filter offensive in many ways. Snapchat users immediately went on Twitter to express their concerns over the blackface and the fact that Marley was more than just a pot smoker — he was a legendary musician.
"Is this a joke?! Not only are they perpetuating a very damaging narrative but they're using literal blackface," said a Twitter user.
and a quote?" said another.

Snapchat told the Daily News via email that the filter was approved by his estate.
"The lens we launched today was created in partnership with the Bob Marley Estate, and gives people a new way to share their appreciation for Bob Marley and his music. Millions of Snapchatters have enjoyed Bob Marley's music, and we respect his life and achievement," a spokesperson wrote.
This is not the first time a face filter app uses a black famous person as inspiration for a facial makeover. MSQRD also has Marley and Barack Obama, but it didn't get the same criticism for it. Then again, MSQRD does not have the millions of users Snapchat does.
