Betting: Harry Kane 9/4 to reach 20 Premier League goals this season

The Tottenham striker signed a new contract to keep him at White Hart Lane until 2020 but bet365 are confident he won't double his current Premier League goal tally this campaign

While most of the attention is on last minute transfer dealings, Tottenham have announced that striker Harry Kane has committed his future to the club, signing a new five-and-a-half year contract.

Kane may already have hit the 20 goal mark in all competitions this term - with half of those goals coming in the Premier League - but bet365 offer 9/4 (3.25) that he continues his rich vein of form and scores over 19.5 league goals this season. It's just 1/3 (1.33) that the England Under 21 international fails to break the 20 goal barrier.

While it's true that there are only 15 games of the campaign to go, Kane has now established himself as Mauricio Pochettino's first choice frontman, unlike earlier in the season where he was often limited to substitute appearances.

Indeed, Kane's 10 Premier League goals this term have come as a result of just 13 starts, an impressive return for any striker, let alone a 21-year-old who had only played a handful of games for the club before this season.

Kane originally caught the eye in the Europa League, where he has notched seven goals in seven games and he has also played his part in Spurs' Capital One Cup run with goals in the first three rounds of the competition.

A double against West Bromwich Albion on Saturday that included a penalty could also be a positive sign for punters considering backing the 9/4 (3.25) on over 19.5 goals.

Kane has already demonstrated that he is a danger in the air as well as with the ball at his feet this season, if he is going to get the opportunity to bolster his tally from the spot when Andros Townsend isn't on the pitch too, then that is a significant plus.

Christian Eriksen has often been the lauded player in the Spurs line up of late, and with good reason, his exceptional set pieces, impressive fitness and intelligent movement have proved decisive on plenty of occasions but the impact of Kane should not be overlooked.

In a season where Pochettino was struggling identify the man who would consistently get his name on the score sheet, Kane has grabbed the opportunity that Roberto Soldado and Emmanuel Adebayor couldn't, and

9/4 (3.25) looks a little too big on him reaching 20 league goals and further emphasising to England boss Roy Hodgson that he is deserving of a place in the senior Three Lions squad.
