A 51-year old man was arrested for the abduction and murder of an 11-year old boy from Khayalethu, Knysna, said Western Cape police on Monday. This, after the child’s body was found in bushes in the area.
According to police spokesperson Captain Malcolm Pojie, Zama Mani was reported missing by his mother on Friday night.
“Initial reports reveal that the boy went to the Fraaisig Primary School early that morning. Later, it was established that he never attended classes for the day,” he said.
Pojie said video footage led police to the suspect’s house.
The suspect led the police to a bushy area near Howard Street where the boy’s body was found with a shoelace around his neck.
The suspect will appear in the Knysna Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday.
