
Survivors and victims of herdsmen attacks on Agatu
communities have requested for the siting of a military Barrack in Agatu to
build confidence and encourage the locals to return home ahead of the farming
season.
The Oche-Agatu, Mr Godwin Onah, made the demand among other
pressing needs when the Benue State governor, Mr Samuel Ortom visited the local
government to assess the level of destruction carried out by the herdsmen in
the attacks which lasted for two months.
Mr Ortom, who visited communities like Aila, Akwu, Odugbeho
and Okololo, expressed shock at the level of destruction of lives and
properties, promising to take their demands to the federal government for
consideration.
The governor while responding to the demand made by the
Agatu indigenes at Aila, promised to take up the issues with the Federal
Government, considering the level of devastation.
Addressing journalists, Mr Ortom said he will also request
for a dedicated reconstruction funds for Benue State as is being done for the
people of North East.
