KAMPALA. Herman Wasswa and Michael Birungi scored two second half goals yesterday to hand KCC a 2-1 win over host side KMKM at the ongoing Mapinduzi tournament in Zanzibar.
The victory moved the title holders to seven points and with a chance of topping the group pending a late Group B game involving Mtende and Azam.
The latter, with former KCC winger Brian Majwega in their ranks, were level on points with KCC going into what was also their final group B game.
The result meanwhile all but eliminated KMKM who concluded with a single point from three games having also lost to Azam.
After a goalless first half, Wasswa scored the first goal, also his second of the tournament, following his strike in the previous game, a 3-0 win over Mtende.
Birungi, provider for the first, added a second before their opponents got a late consolation to deny coach Abdallah Mubiru a much sought after clean sheet.
The coach had previously emphasised the need of keeping clean sheets, after seeing his side concede twice in a 2-all draw with Tanzanian champions Azam before thrashing Mtende 3-0.
Mubiru should, however, be pleased with the form of his strikers who have contributed six of the team's seven goals.
William Wadri has netted thrice for the Ugandan champions who are using the tournament as preparation for the Caf Champions League preliminary round qualifier against Cameroon's Cosmos de Bafia next month.
Mubiru has also had the chance to look at former Proline midfielder Simon Mbaziira who made his debut for KCC in the opening game having recently joined from Portugal.
