David 'Calabar' Owino is set to undergo a medical with Zesco United in Ndola on Monday as he finalizes his move to the Zambian champions.
This is after his suitors agreed terms with Kenyan League champions Gor Mahia where he has been playing for close to three seasons.
Under the deal, Gor will pocket $ 15,000 (Sh1.4 million) while Owino will take home $20,000 (Sh1.8 million) in sign-on fee.
Contract talks between the two clubs have been ongoing for the last three weeks.
Owino's contract wit Gor Mahia was due to expire in June.
Since joining K'Ogalo in 2012 from Naivasha-based side Karuturi Sports, Owino has been a loyal servant of Gor, helping the club to back-to-back league titles in 2013 and 2014 and two domestic cups.
Strong in the air and a tough tackler, he has been an ever present feature in Gor's defence rising through the ranks to become the club's vice captain.
Under former Gor coach, Croat Zdravko Logarusic, he was mainly deployed as a right back, but failed to nail a regular starting role as he played second fiddle to Solomon Nasio. But his fortunes changed in 2013 under Scot Bobby Williamson when he was shifted to the heart of defence, forming a solid partnership with the burly Ugandan Israel Emuge. He was voted the Best KPL defender in 2013 and 2014.
Confirming Owino's move, club deputy secretary general Ronald Ngala said: "We have given Owino permission to go to Zesco. They have listed him for a medical examination tomorrow (Monday). He should jet out today (Sunday.)"
"We had talks with him and he expressed a desire to leave. There was no need of standing on his way as he felt he has been a loyal servant to the club for two years and wanted a new challenge," Ngala said.
Brought on board
Ngala explained that the club has brought on board former Thika United Liberian defender Dirkir Glay as his replacement who will fight for the position alongside the gigantic Emuge.
Emuge who still has one year on his contract found playing time limited last term and will be aiming at grabbing the slot ahead of Glay.
At the same time, Gor's head coach Frank Nuttall is expected back on Wednesday.
The Scot has been on holiday in his native country and is expected to sign a new deal on Wednesday evening before taking charge of the team's training on Thursday where he will have a chance to assess the new recruits.
K'Ogalo have so far signed former Tusker goalie Boniface Oluoch, Glay, Timothy Otieno and Martin Weruga (both from Talanta Academy), Ghanaian striker Taofiq Zachary,20, signed from United Arab Emirates outfit Al Shaab FC and are closing in on Bidco's youthful midfielder Ernest Wendo .
Nuttall will be entitled to a monthly salary of Sh650,000, up from Sh600,000. He will also be given an apartment and a car.
