The wrestling legend cracked a joke about the Manchester United star's hairline after a row about alleged diving took a bizarre twist
Wrestling icon Stone Cold Steve Austin has told
Wayne Rooney to "embrace the baldness" after the
Manchester United captain suggested they team up for a fight at Wrestlemania.
Rooney, who is believed to have undergone a hair transplant in 2011 after miraculously reversing his receding hairline, earned a controversial penalty in the final moments of United's 3-1 win over Preston North End in the FA Cup on Monday.
The incident sent WWE Intercontinental champion and Preston fan Wade 'Bad News' Barrett into a Twitter rage which eventually brought Austin into the ring.
Rooney, a keen boxer as a youth, called in the help of WWE Hall of Famer Austin, who was as famous for his unrepentant baldness as for pretending to fight while drunk.
With a dream fight seemingly on, Barrett turned to Preston striker Kevin Davies - who said he would undergo a rigorous training camp to get himself ready for the 'Biggest Show in Sports Entertainment', presumably in reference to their combined weight.
"You and Steve Austin vs me and Kevin Davies at Wrestlemania in 6 weeks. Get it booked Vince McMahon," Barrett added.
Austin, whose 'Stone Cold' stage name was an ironic reference to his alleged alcohol consumption, waded in and told Rooney to "embrace the baldness" that endeared him to so many wrestling fans. The pair then showed a glimpse of what may be to come by tweeting 'Stone Cold's' catchphrase, with Rooney writing: "And that's the bottom line. Cause Stone Cold said so."
Wrestlemania 31 takes place on March 29 at Levi's Stadium in California - the same day that Preston take on Fleetwood Town and two days after England's clash with Lithuania
