Former Kilak County MP Michael Ocula has crossed to the ruling NRM, arguing that he can no longer participate in the politics of intrigue that is eating away the region.
Speaking at a health camp organised by National Youth Coalition for NRM Mobilisation at Olya Primary School in Atiak Sub-county, Amuru District on Sunday, Mr Ocula who represented Kilak in the 8th Parliament, said he has served in Opposition for a long time and he cannot continue.
"We cannot continue with politics of intrigue when our people are dying of poverty. I was in Opposition because there was war in the region, now that there is peace, it is high time we joined hands and embraced government programmes geared towards development," Mr Ocula said.
Mr Ocula, who won on the Forum for Democratic Change ticket in 2006, lost in 2011 to Mr Gilbert Olanya.
Mr Ocula has been an active member of the Opposition. In December last year, he campaigned for Ms Lucy Akello of FDC who defeated NRM's Jane Okili in the Amuru Woman MP by-election.
Reacting to Mr Ocula's crossing, the FDC chairperson for Amuru District, Mr Michael Lakony, said the former MP was no longer an active member of the party but just an ally of the Opposition. "When he opted to contest as an independent in 2011, he was no longer FDC and it was at that point that he lost his relevance among the locals," Mr Lakony said.
Speaking at the function, President Museveni noted that NRM party members should focus on how best they can contribute to the party adding that when people go to churches they contribute and the same should be done for the party. "It is high time to get cash to support the party than expecting to get cash out of it," Mr Museveni said
