Woman Defends Aborting Her Baby at 23 Weeks Because Doctors Said She Would Die After Birth

In a recent Reddit Q&A post, a woman revealed that she aborted her 23-week old baby after finding out she had a rare chromosomal defect called Triploidy,. Tragically, very few babies with the defect are born alive and for those that do, they usually live for only a few hours, days or weeks. In fact, two out of three pregnancies miscarry in the first trimester and almost all other babies die later or are stillborn. Her daughter also had Dandy-Walker Syndrome, which is a congenital brain malformation involving the cerebellum and the fluid-filled spaces around it.
The woman and her Catholic husband thought about their situation and decided that abortion was the best choice to make because the baby could cause health problems for the mother. According to the Daily Mail, the baby was so small that it could have died in the womb, which could have resulted in an infection; and the mother was at a higher risk for preeclampsia. The woman also said that her placenta could have ruptured, leaving her to “bleed out in my bathtub faster than anyone could help me.”
However, there was one problem with their abortion plan: the only doctor who offered abortions in their city worked at a Catholic institution and they had to get special approval from the CEO and their ethics board. Unbelievably, they were able to get that approval and move forward with the abortion.
