The rains are upon us again and floods are beginning to emerge in different parts of Rivers State and Nigeria. Why are we still grappling with the simple issue of properly channeling rain wa
ter and preventing floods? What practical steps can be taken to prevent this?
When rain is falling especially heavy rain, people carry their gabages from their homes and throw inside the gutters for the rain to flush them. Rain will not be able to flush out all the cabbages thereby blocking the drainages and causing floods. Tailors, food sellers of different types also do the same thing. It is very wrong. Let us clean our gutters please. Flood is a natural disaster but we can do something to eshew it.
