Abdullahi, gave the advice while speaking in an exclusive interview with Saturday Vanguard in Abuja.
Adbullahi, a former Vice Chancellor of Ahmadu Bello University, and former Special Adviser to President Obasanjo on Food Security said: “My advice to Buhari is that he should steer clear of the mess and concentrate on his job of repositioning Nigeria.
“As far as I am concerned, I don’t see the distraction in the NASS as important. It is being caused by some persons who sneaked from the PDP to the APC to fight for their personal interest under the guise of playing politics.”
Reminded that the President cannot achieve any results without getting the full support of the NASS, Abdullahi pointed out that the legislature has no choice but to stand by the president in moving Nigeria forward.
He said that Nigerians would be ready to defend and stand by the President once he is able to unveil his policy direction for bailing Nigeria out of the current economic crisis.
The NEF top brass pointed out that members of the NASS would be trying to keep pace with the president once he is able to work for the overall well-being of Nigerians who have been made to suffer unduly over the years.
He said that ‘politics of hunger’ was responsible for the current level of deceit and dishonesty in the Nigerian polity and asked Buhari to be firm in dealing with people who have stolen the country’s wealth with impunity. “Buhari has to be very cautious with people who are determined to distract him from achieving his set goals for Nigeria and deal decisively with those who have stolen the nation’s wealth with impunity over the years ,” Abdullahi said.
Reflecting on the appointment of service chiefs by PMB, the NEF leader described it as a reflection of Federal Character, saying that Buhari had proved to be a national leader by so doing.
Abdullahi said that what Buhari had done had shamed his predecessor, who made most of his key military appointments based on ethnic affiliations and primordial considerations
