An 18-year-old girl was found hiding in a bed of leaves after she was allegedly attacked and chased by a taxicab driver and a passenger after partying at Tiger Tiger in Claremont, Cape Town on Thursday night.
According to the Cape Argus, Sanet de Lange had been out with friends after returning from a holiday in Thailand. She hopped into a cab she had hailed in the street but then realised she didn’t have money.
“She offered to pay the driver when she got home. Then the two men started quarrelling and she remembers getting scared,” her mother told the publication.
Sanet then jumped out of the taxi when the car came to a stop. She was allegedly attacked and managed to flee, hiding under leaves on the roadside until she was found by police. It was determined that she had not been raped.
“She was soaking wet when she was found. At the hospital they thought she had been in an accident because she was covered in all these leaves and twigs,” her mother added.
She has not yet been able to make a full statement to police and is recovering in hospital.
“She can’t really have a conversation. She says a lot of broken things, but it’s getting better each day,” her mother said.
The family has been urged to lay a complaint at the Wynberg Station Commander’s office.
