The body of an unnamed 26-year-old man was found at Blue Waters Beach in Cape Town on Monday, police confirmed in a statement.
Lieutenant-Colonel André Traut told the media no arrests have yet been made.
Community Policing Forum chairperson Sandy Schuter said the man was discovered near a silver Mercedes Benz.
“It is not clear if he was driving the car or if it was used to commit the crime,” she added.
No further details are known about the incident.
Strandfontein has been rocked by a spike ofviolent crimes against young men in recent months.
Most notably is the hijacking of now deceased Chad Baron, a 26-year-old resident who was found beaten, stabbed, and left for dead in a derelict house.
Baron’s attackers were charged with attempted murder, during the duration of his coma. The charges have now been changed to murder, after Baron’s death on Saturday.
Schuter told the Cape Argus, “What’s worrying for us as a community is that this is happening so often. Residents are extremely worried because they live here. We do need the resources to be strengthened. The people here are our responsibility and we are struggling under the circumstances. The city also needs to come to the party when it comes to the safety of the community.”
