NYSC introduces biometric to monitor corps members

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has introduced a biometric system to monitor the activities of corps members during their service year.
Speaking yesterday in Kuje, Abuja where the programme was launched, Director General of the NYSC, Brigadier General Johnson Olawumi, said corps members now have to be present during their monthly clearance to get captured in the exercise which will commence this month in FCT and Lagos State.

He said that the scheme discovered that a lot of corps members abscond from their states or areas of posting hence the need the curb such acts.
Olawumi said the process was aimed at addressing irregular signatures leading to non-payment of the monthly allowances, absenteeism and poor collation and storage of data amongst other challenges.
Director, Corps Welfare and Inspectorate of the scheme, Mike Ahile said the biometric system will be used to monitor submission of monthly clearance, Community Development Services (CDS) attendance etc.
