Some of the most arrogant people you will encounter are...
Gate men. Office assistants. Drivers. Cleaners. Assistant-anything.
Gate man: Which kain car you dey drive wey you dey horn pon-pon?! Nor be ya mate dey drive Land cruiser? I nor open gate. Park for outside! (Gate man doesn't own a bicycle wheel)
Office assistant: Clean your own office, am I your houseboy? (Bhet...so why are you here, Mr. Assistant?)
Drivers: If I come back from Surulere by 3.38pm, I nor go fit go Ikeja again oh. Traffic dey.
Cleaners: Na because you see me dey work for here, abi? I nor blame you! (So where should you be working? As MD of Conoil?)
They think their job is shit.
They think you think they are shit.
They give you shit in advance.
Dignity of labour.
It is in your hands to treat your job with dignity; with the kind of importance it deserves. The rest of the world will only follow your lead.
Money humbles.
"Money" is not N3million in your account oh. That is probably the most dangerous place to be. Small
money syndrome. Big bragging and noisemaking.
And definitely not oil wealth or filthy lucre.
When a wo(man) works for every penny and becomes of a certain kind of rich...
They become teachers. Lovers of life. Patient. Introspective.
You can't judge one's humility until s/he can afford to buy pride.
The expectation is not for certain kind of workers be subservient. Just be professional.
Iron your office assistant uniform with the kindness and attention the COO of twitter will iron his shirt.
Take that job as seriously as Mike Adenuga takes Glo.
Don't beg for a tip just because you held the door open for 3 seconds.
The culture of tipping is appreciation for work done. It is very different from being a beggar on the street.
You want respect as a receptionist? Show some respect to your job.
Don't be calling Emeka during office hours and crying that his friend broke your heart. We don't care. Really, should we? No nah!
Don't carry that long face around like we owe you something.
Quitting your job because someone shouted at you. Are you a kid?
Would Dangote quit supplying a company because someone shouted at him?
These are things top executives put into perspective. And that is why they are where they are.
And that is as humble as humility can ever be.
May we truly be "humble"
I love this article and I decided to share it because she said the truth.
