Gender Equality Part 2.

We are still on gender equality, which refers to the equal rights, responsibilities and opportunities of women and men, girls and boys.

Equality does not mean that women and men will become the same but that women's and men's rights, responsibilities and opportunities will not depend on whether they are born male or female. Gender equality implies that the interest, needs, and priorities of both women and men are taken into consideration, recognition, needs, and priorities of both women and men.

Gender equality is not women's issue but should concern and fully engage men as well as women. Equality between women and men is seen as a human rights issue and as a precondition for, and indicator of, sustainable people-oriented development. It is note worthy that:
-Empowering women is also an indispensable tool for advancing development and reducing poverty.
-Empowering women contribute to the health and productivity of whole families and communities and to improve prospects for next generation
-An educated women would obviously want all her children to be educated. Gender equality is similarly equally acknowldged as being a key to achieving the other seven MDG goals. See you in part 3 where I will talk about gender mainsterming.
