An American woman, who is in South Africa to promote her “Stop Rape, Educate” campaign, took to Instagram, to live blog her own alleged rape ordeal.
Based on her Instagram account with more than 30 000 followers, Amber Amour, a social activist, claims she was raped in Cape Town six weeks ago.
Her harrowing pictures and account of the incident is described in detail. Amour claims she was raped by an acquaintance while they shared a shower.
She reported the alleged rape to the police and has a case number.
Amour said her alleged rapist has since been arrested but was presently out on R1 000 bail.
Police were not immediately available for comment.
In one of her posts, Amour appears in a photograph which was apparently taken after the alleged rape.
In it, she is seen in the shower with tears streaming down her face.
In a separate photograph, she is seen in what appears to be a hospital bed. The caption indicated that she had gone to a doctor to collect evidence for a rape kit. The blog goes on to document graphic detail of the alleged rape.
Speaking to News24, Amour said her blog was her way of ensuring that justice was served, while at the same time practising what she preached.
On her account, she wrote: “I tell you guys to speak up every single day and I know that I need to practice what I preach. It is so incredibly hard, though, but having you all here for me makes all the difference. I know that this may not go anywhere and I know that I may face ridicule by the police but I will take a shot at ‘justice’ anyway.”
Stop Rape, Educate is a campaign founded by Amour to end sexual violence against women through awareness campaigns with street art. The organisation has been active since 2014. Amour is visiting South Africa as part of her Stop Rape, Educate world tour.
Amour is currently still in Cape Town promoting her campaign.
