Back in 2007, Cena suffered a significant injury, and he wasn’t expected to be back until after WrestleMania 24 in the spring of 2008. However, Cena ended up returning to action several months prior, as he was the 30th entrant in the 2008 Royal Rumble. So, in the eyes of many, John Cena has mutant healing powers.
While many are expecting Cena to heal, and return from injury sooner than WWE’s medical staff expects him to, it doesn’t look like that’s going to happen, as Cena posted an update on his status, saying that he would be out of action for quite a while.
“Day 6 post operation. Movement is very good but because a giant chunk of cartilage was missing, this one may take a bit.”
Cena recently underwent a successful shoulder operation, which was performed by Dr. Jeffrey Dugas at the Sports Medicine and Orthopedic Center in Birmingham, Alabama. Dr. Dugas told WWE.com that the operation took nearly an hour, and revealed that the cartilage in Cena’s shoulder was deteriorating.
“He had a complete tear of a small portion of the rear rotator cuff tendon, the infraspinatus — toward the top-back of his shoulder — which I repaired. Also, there was a large piece of loose tissue in his shoulder that needed to be removed.”“The first hurdle is getting the cuts to heal and getting cartilage to form over the defect. After that, we’ll get back to function.”
