WAEC Will Create Unique Centers For Albinos
Albinism is the complete opposite of Melanism. Albinism is a congenital
disorder and a hereditary condition that is characterized by complete or
partial absence of pigment in the skin, hair and eyes due to the
absence or defect of a copper-containing enzyme called Tyrosinase which
is involved in the production of melanin. Albinism is characterized by
the absence of melanin in the eyes, skin, hair or cuticle. A person who
has albinism is known as an Albino.
Apparently the West African Examination Council (WAEC) intends to create
unique centers for Albinos in the 2016 West African Senior School
Certificate Exams. Mr. Demianus Ojijeogu, a WAEC Public Affairs Officer
confirmed that the Council will provide the correct lighting and
ventilation in the centers. He said: "I can not say how many centers we
will have across the states because registration is still ongoing ...
once we have candidates from a state indicating that he or she is an
Albino, we shall make provision for them. Their centers will have the
right ventilation and lighting to make sure they are not discriminated
against
