11-year-old found dead under relative’s bed

crime scene
An 11-year-old girl was found dead under a bed after going missing from her Paarl home at the weekend. “The police assisted with the search, along with neighbours and teachers from her school, handing out pamphlets, and I used Facebook to reach more people.”

The body of Shamonique Shawn-Dean Claasen was found in a relative’s house, under a bed, wrapped in a black bag which was tied with wire. A cause of death has bot yet been disclosed, but police took a 23-year-old into custody, according to Cape Times reports.
Her parents, Shawn Lewis and Magdeline Claasen, went to identify her body on Tuesday. They were too distraught to speak.

The girl went missing on Saturday after she was left with her sisters and her mother went shopping. When she returned, her daughter was gone.
She became worried and with the help of family and friends, started searching for her.
The family reported her missing on Sunday, which was also her birthday. Dal Weide Primary School opened its doors so it could be used as a base for the search on Sunday.
Her cousin, Elaine Williams, said: “The police assisted with the search, along with neighbours and teachers from her school, handing out pamphlets, and I used Facebook to reach more people.”
It was a family member who discovered her body when a strange smell was coming from around the relative’s house, but assumed it was a dead mouse.
“They found her body, under a bed, wrapped in a black bag, tied with wire,” said Williams.
“Samo was a darling child, my husband called her a little bit of sunshine. That’s what she brought with her every time she entered a room.”
The school arranged for trauma counselling for the pupils. SAPS spokesperson FC van Wyk said: “A 23-year-old male was taken into custody for questioning.”
