Janet Jackson’s longtime trainer, Tony Martinez, wants to help you sculpt your body to achieve those sexy hard abs that the iconic pop singer is famous for.
Tony
says the cross-legged reverse crunch is “one of Janet’s favorite lower
ab exercises.” He added: “it works the hips and core and gets her the
definition in those sexy abs she’s known for.”
How
to do it: Lie faceup with knees bent, feet flat on the floor and palms
facedown underneath you. Cross right ankle over left knee (A).
Maintaining this position, lift legs up and in toward chest (B). Do 15
reps (add more as you get stronger), then switch sides. Do it 2 to 3
times per week to see results in as little as 2 weeks. See the diagram
below, per Health.com.
Janet
and Tony met in Europe after he trained with her for a few sessions.
She was so pleased with his style that she told him, “You’re not going
back to the States; you’re going on tour with me.”
At
the time, Ms. Jackson was at her peak – having just launched one of her
largest tours ever in support of “The Velvet Rope” LP. The nearly
18-month world tour was not only a massive hit for Janet, the tour took
Martinez on an entirely new journey, as he explained in a 2014 interview.
“My
first tour ever was beyond an amazing experience,” Martinez said. “I
was only home for eleven days… And I challenged her right from the
beginning: she was basically trying to continually outdo herself because
she is an extremely competitive person.
Her
shows were anywhere from 90 minutes to two-hours so I would have to
train her specifically for each show since she had no rest. Her only
rest was costume changes during the show so we had to train for show
after show after show using circuitry training—something that really
wasn’t being done at the time. And luckily, I’ve been with her ever
since and I train her to this day.”
