Research shows that there are over one hundred million widows who live in poverty and suffer from social stigmatization and economic deprivation purely because they have lost their husbands.
Today June 23 2016, is International Widows Day. The ordeal a typical African woman tends to face, immediately she loses her husband is horrible. Some will be forcefully married off to their husbands kinsmen, some sent out their husbands home and deny them of their husbands wealth and allow them to carter for their kids alone and oppressive widow rituals - From cleaning corpses to sex with brother-in-laws
Thanks to the international community for setting out a day like this to raise awareness to the widow’s might and plight all over the world.
As the United Nations observes, there is so much “poverty and injustice faced by millions of widows and their dependents” all over the world. I will leave youwith this story here
