OAP Daddy Freeze explains why you should not envy him in a new IG post
On Air Personality, Daddy Freeze of Cool Fm, is one of the Nigerian celebrities I admire so much, not really because of his luxury lifestyle but his sincere nature. One of the celebrities who show people how well they work and he says things the way they are.
The popular OAP indirectly led us into his world of survival. This piece shows that behind every smile there was a tear, behind every luxury there was a penury.
Read as he posted on his Instagram page.....
My minds the diamond, don't let the watch
confuse you! lots of people see the watches on my gram and hate. If you
put 20 years of your life into something and can't buy ordinary
authentic watch, wont you be worried? I have paid dues, I have slept on
mats and worked round the clock, built an industry out of scraps. I
found my way up a lonely bush path, worked throughout my time in the
university, rushing on-air from the exam hall and lecture theatres,
while attending 2 mandatory meetings a week! Yet I still finished with a
strong 2.2!.
Today I have 15 assistants! My former
colleagues at BCOS argued about what our last salary after I claimed
that in 2001, I was earning N1,500 some argued that it was less!!! Here
is what they said on Facebook.
"Bubble master: Freeze
Coolfm - Did u actually collect N1,500 at Bcos Ibadan. I doubt if the
answer will be yes. I started on N100 because I was paid like an IT
person, and my last salary was N1,200 when I left in 2005.
Here we are
today. He don tey, my broda!" He also went on to add "Mr. Finks Femi
Olugboji, Sugar Ray Bisi Adebola, Lyrical Genius Stewart Bimbola
Obisesan, Big L Lekan Omosebi Feyikemi Niyi-olayinka Adewunmi Lynda
Adesanya-Aluko Seun Olagunju Wale Don Femi Obong-Daniels - what was your
last salary at the Bcos Ibadan?" Another former colleague in BCOS and
current colleague at COOLFM, currently head of sports and 'gang leader'
of the much acclaimed 'Femi & The gang', a man I have worked with
for over 20years added "For three years (96-99) I was paid 1,500
freelancing at BCOS. Oh, there was another 1,500 paid quarterly (500
monthly) because I was also on TV.
When I joined OGBC in 1999 I rejoiced
at the 'upgrade' to 3k per month, even though it meant shuttling
between Ibadan and Abeokuta twice a week. I hit a 'jackpot' 2 years
later when I left OGBC to Join Premier FM (Radio Nigeria, Ibadan) in
2001. Takeoff pay was 5k for my freelance services. Imagine the 'imbe'
levels when I jumped to 21k later that year as a level 8 federal staff!
2.1m per month couldn't give me that kinda joy today (15 years later)"
Another older colleague Femi Olugboji (Mr Finx) added My lasy salary at
BCOS, Ibadan was N2,000
