Provincial police said in a statement on Monday: ”On 21 July 2013 the 16-year-old girl was at her place of residence in St Georges Street in Durban when she was approached by the accused, who overpowered her and raped her. The victim managed to escape and seek assistance from neighbours who assisted her to report the matter to the police.”
The accused was immediately arrested him and a case was opened at the Durban Central Police Station.
The docket was then transferred to the Durban Central Violence, Child protection and Sexual offences unit where further investigations were done which eventually led to the man being convicted and sentenced.
